... And why I Take Our Own Family Photos (Even While Traveling!)

As a photographer, people are often surprised when I say this: I take our own family photos - every time.

Not because I don’t appreciate other photographers’ work, but because I love having full creative control, from the lighting and posing to the final, carefully edited image.

Every photographer sees the world a little differently. And finding someone whose style truly matches yours? That’s not always easy, especially when your taste leans toward something very specific.

My style is soft, dreamy, timeless, and elegant.

It’s the way I see beauty, through gentle light, natural connection, and tones that feel like a warm memory. That’s the feeling I want to capture in our own family images, too.

Sometimes we’re traveling, and sure, we could hire a local photographer—but when you don’t know them or their work personally, it’s hard to know if the final result will reflect your vision. Often, it’s just easier (and more fun) to do it ourselves.

So I bring the tripod, set the timer or remote, and we create those moments together.

It’s not always perfect (especially with kids!), but I know the result will feel authentic - and timeless.
